Opening Scene in Age of Ultron Encapsulates the Marvel Universe
Marvel just released a new full-length trailer for “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” during Monday night’s College Football Playoff National
As the new installment of the Avengers opens this May, fans and haters alike are sharing their two cents regarding the movie online. One of their main topics of discussion is the mind blowing opening scene which shows Earth’s mightiest heroes battling it out with Hydra.
Most viewers must have believed that the movie started from the halfway point. But when they saw Thor wielding his hammer, Iron Man hovering in the air, Black Widow shish kebabing enemies as she went through them and the Hulk doing his infamous ‘Smash!’, they quickly grew quiet and sat back for the rest of the action. We also see Captain America zooming along on his bike and soldiers falling like nine pins and tanks blowing up like confetti.
The best part is all of that action is packed in one single shot! It’s like Joss Whedon (the director) wanted to immerse audiences in the fast paced movie and on the edge of their seats from the getgo. Each shot is fast paced and each Avenger gets his/her own screen time one after another. Ladies and gentlemen, the Avengers have assembled and they are not afraid to show their might!
Viewers also get their first glimpse of the terrible twosome Quicksilver, who is faster than a speeding bullet (which was apparent when he was saving Magneto in X-Men days of Future Past) and his mystical and alluring twin, Scarlet Witch. Here’s an interesting tidbit for you, both are actually Magneto’s kids in the Marvel universe, but in the movie, they have a grudge the size of Olympus against Tony Stark. Both are apparently from Europe and victims of a war that Stark Enterprises funded arms for.
Needless to say, the fantastic opening scene of the Avengers gave viewers and fans of Marvel way more than they bargained for. It began with a smash (pun intended), continued with action packed effects and ended with a resounding and very satisfying crash. The planet is once again in danger of being destroyed and New York is ground zero. Of course, the residents suffer terribly, but as anyone who loves all things comic book, everything will be fine in the end.
On the other hand, as the frenetic opening scene comes to a close, the action takes a downward spiral. We are inundated with an hour that is in stark contrast to the action packed first few minutes. However, despite some of the imperfections in the script, the special effects more than make up for the lag.
